Teaching and Career Development

Are you interested in shaping the future of the next generation?

Welcome to this exciting opportunity to start your teaching career.

Oasis Academy Henderson Avenue is delighted to be a new lead school offering six School Direct ITT places for 2015-16 in a range of primary schools within North Lincolnshire, working in partnership with the North Lincolnshire SCITT Partnership.

Oasis Academy Henderson Avenue has an excellent training record: we have offered placements to trainee teachers since 2011. All have been judged to be outstanding and have been successful in securing teaching posts, three here at the academy, two of whom are already in leadership positions as Maths and Music subject leaders.

Intensive bespoke support for trainee teachers

The North Lincolnshire SCITT Partnership has a proven and successful track record in school-based teacher training. The key characteristic of this route is that it is an apprenticeship model of training. Rather than being based at a university or college and experiencing a number of teacher training placements, you are based in a host school and benefit from training opportunities across our partnership of five contrasting primary schools and academies. In addition you will meet on a weekly basis with other trainees in the North Lincolnshire SCITT Partnership to train, network and support one another. The Partnership has a core team of central trainers which has built up a high level of expertise from their extensive experience of working in the field of teacher training. All trainee teachers have the opportunity to achieve a PGCE qualification as an embedded part of the programme. The Partnership’s training base is the Learning Development Centre in Scunthorpe – a fully equipped and well-resourced professional development centre.

People speak very highly of their initial teacher training with the Partnership: 75% of all those trained have rated their training as Very Good (the highest rating possible) over the past five years, with 100% rating their training as Good or Better.

What are the schools like?

Each of the 5 schools in our partnership offers something unique. We offer placements across Scunthorpe and the surrounding area and our schools are diverse – a mixture of urban, rural, medium and large primary schools, including a church school and three academies. Our schools do have two things in common – all are committed to providing a first class education for their pupils and all are looking forward to recruiting inspiring young teachers who are bright, passionate and ambitious.

This innovative route into the teaching profession will provide you with the necessary skills to become an outstanding teacher.

What will you gain from this programme?

  • Initial teacher training delivered to the highest standard to help you to take up your first teaching post with confidence, knowing that you have gained excellence in knowledge, understanding and skills related to teaching and practical classroom experience.
  • A thorough understanding of how to teach the Primary curriculum in creative ways to excite and stimulate children whilst ensuring they make good progress.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of a specialist subject preparing you to take a leadership role in school. Skills in monitoring and managing your own development and an ability to reflect on alternative approaches to education will help you to make informed choices and aid your career progression.
